So, I have a confession.

I try to eat healthy. And sometimes I succeed. But mostly I stress eat. How about you?

I cave to the cravings of yummy fried or sugary snacks. Because they make me feel better.

But what if there were a delicious, healthy recipe that satisfied that sweet tooth, made you feel full and was completely guilt free? Interested? Keep reading!

“Enjoy your healthy chocolate guilt-free smoothie!”

Here is my favorite chocolatey smoothie recipe. I’ve been known to make it for my kids as a snack, or to bump up the nutritional value of a meal.

There are soooo many benefits to eating greens in a blender. All those micronutrients are pulverized so your body absorbs them easily. But the true secret in this smoothie recipe is in the sweeteners and the fat. They are healthy!

That’s right, we don’t have to sweeten our foods with cane sugar or make our foods creamy with dairy. Dairy and sugar increase inflammation and depress your immune system.

This smoothie recipe uses dates and bananas to sweeten it. It uses nondairy milk and avocado to make it creamy. It depends on what ingredients you have on hand, and what you feel like putting in it.

I put these ingredients in a high powered blender, in this order:

1-2 ripe bananas, broken into halves or quarters

A good handful of fresh spinach- that’s right! Spinach!

2-3 Medjool dates, pits removed and torn into pieces

A cup or more frozen blueberries

Cheers!

a quarter cup of cocoa powder

half an avocado (optional)

Soy milk or your milk of choice

I put all the ingredients in a high speed blender, then pour the milk to about 3/4 height of the ingredients. Cover it and blend on a smoothie setting or a pulse setting. If it’s not blending, then add more milk. Be sure to turn your blender off if you need to rearrange the frozen blueberries with a spoon. Taste it and add more dates if it needs some sweetness. I’ve also tried adding maple syrup or agave syrup if I wanted to indulge and both are delicious.

That’s it! Enjoy your healthy chocolate guilt-free smoothie! If you make it, let me know what you think! Comment below.
